What we did over half the summer was go on the computer and go to wissahickon park. We talk about what, how, when, were, and things about our city and parks around philly. To me it was a little bit fun about going to the city and park. To me it was a little bit boaring. To me the presenting was ok because I wasnt scared or nothing, it was ok and i think i did good. Also this a fun and cool program to join and also you get paid.

What i think about the program
The program helped me become a better person because i never really thought about helping other people feel comfortable in the community. Now i really care about how other human beings feel .like I never recycled a day in my life now i try my best to recycle everything that should be recycled. Because of this program i know more about the civil war and alot of other thngs.Yes i hated the walks trough the park but im glad i went because i learned alot from it and I also learned how they can fix it. I learned how to use powerpoint and sketch up. powerpoint was fun to do but sketch up i didnt really like it to much but thats only because i didnt really know how to use it.One day we had to get lost and find our way back on our own (that ws fun to do).The scavenger hunt was fun to we had to get to each place that was on the paper before the other groups so that was another thing that i enjoyed.

I think that if this program had paid a little bit more it would have been better. Binta was always real happy and stuff, so that was kinda annoying, but the people in my group was cool so it was whatever. We had to do a lot of stuff, like a powerpoint presentation and a scavenger hunt, so they did try to keep us busy. At least now it's over so I can chill the rest of the summer. My Sketchup was actually of a bridge for old people, so that they could go through the park. Overall, this whole thing was ard I guess.

I learned about google map and wissahickon park and about powerpoints.
This park is fun to be in but
It needs to have benches & restrooms.
It needs food stops.
It needs some more people in it.
It needs some more trash cans in it.
I learned how to use powerpoint.

What I Thought About The Program.
During the program I have had fun. I had the expierience of going into the Wissahickon Park even though it was tiring. We gave our different suggestions about howe we could improve the park for people of all ages and disabilities. I also enjoyed using Google SketchUp and working on the computer. I believe that my powerpoint was a success. Even though i am a bit nervous about presenting it will be good. For the first time I've really gotten into blogging. I will miss my group members some. Also Binta has done a good job with us while we got on her nerves. Lastly, I liked getting paid.
Today we rated all of the other group's blogs. We also started to work on our final group presentation that we have to present on Friday.

KinG Mj's Final Thoughts
This program was not exactly fun. We had to do way too much walking and writing, so it wasn't really a job, more like school. I only came because i got paid every day, real rap. But still though, I did get to do some stuff that was interesting I guess, even though I can't think of them right now, so it's all good.

KinG Mj's Thoughts
Today they made us present our Powerpoints in front of the people in our group. I didn't really want to but since we had to I did. It wasn't that hard because I had most of my stuff done, but it was kind of an interesting experience.

Thoughts on the powerpoint.
On Friday Laura bought in ice cream(but I didnt have any). We went into the next room and watched Transformers 3. The movie was good even though I've seen it four times.
This week we are working on presenting our powerpoints. My powerpoint is based on the Wissahickon Park and what I could do to improve it. I would like to make the park better for people of all ages and disabilities. Im a bit nervous about presenting my powerpoint because im not used to talking in front of large groups of people.

My thoughts about the park & presentation
The walk through the park was tiring because it was a really long walk.
I didnt like the walk through the park but i did learn some interesting things like why certain things are in the park.
The presentation that we have to do i'm kind of nervous about that.
I think i will do good though.
I'm nervous and happy at the same time because doing the presentation will help me in the long run when im able to get a real job.

MJ's Thoughts
On Friday we had to come into work, but we didn't do anything. We just sat around and ate ice cream and watched bootleg Transformers 2. I had already seen the movie, but it was whatever I didn't care. Then, the next week we came in we had to present these projects they were making us do for something, so we had to work on them all day everyday this week. It was boring, but we had to do it so I did it.

I am very appreciative that laura brought ice cream for us even though i didnt eat any. It was still a good day because we didnt have to do any work and we got to watch transformers. Tomorrow we have to present our powerpoint. I am not nervous but I hope they like what I have done.

Today Mike came in and showed us a presentation about how we could make park places more wheelchair accessible. Later on at break, Donte and Karaun had fun throwing acorns at the squirrel which got pretty mad. It was kind of fun when they started running. We also had to make a powerpoint for our practice presentation for tomorrow. My powerpoint is about how the places in the Wissahickon park should be more wheelchair accessible.

Matt Johnson
Today we had to listen to a man who came in and talked about wheelchair accessibility. He had some interesting things to say, and he went through alot of the history of how disabled people were treated bad in America, especially in Philadelphia. He was basically doing a sample presentation for us because we have to do one like that as well. Ours has to be about the park and the things that we have seen that we feel we can improve.I don't really want to do it, but we have to do it for the job so i guess I'll just get it done.

The Trails by Shakeelah .
The walk was very tiring yesterday. The walk was alright for us but some people that is trying to get around different ways might have some difficulties. There were a lot of steep hills and sharp turns. Some other problems were that there weren't really a lot of places to sit and take a break at, there weren't many places to go to the bathroom, and there were no trashcans. There are a lot of improvements that can be done to the park to make it a lot better and more enjoyable.

Research Blog- Erosion
The removal of dirt or vegetation by wind, water, or ice is called erosion. The problem with erosion is that the topsoil is lost, which has all the nutrients for the plants (wikipedia). Most of the agricultural land that is used for farming has this problem because of the constant working of the soil. "Approximately 40% of the world's agricultural land is seriously degraded." We saw how the water eroded the vegetation. (wikipedia) "When large number of hikers use trails or extensive off road vehicle use occurs, erosive effects often follow, arising from vegetation removal and furrowing of foot traffic and off road vehicle tires." (wikipedia) .When I went to the park I learned that erosion starts from hills also from rain, rock and mud slides.

Fairmount Park
The first time we went to the park we saw the locator markers that were there just in case you got lost, the numbers were in the police's system so they can track you down. When we walked along Lincoln Trailway we saw and learned about erosion. While we were at Kelly Drive I saw ducks.
We walked up 100 steps and we walked 3 miles in the wet soggy park. We also saw East Falls Bridge that showed a good view of the ways into the city from the outlying suburbs. Also we learned how they made the East Falls Bridge. I think it was fun walking in the park. There were some construction workers there taking out some of the poison ivy, there are a lot of others ways that could help improve the park. They need to create a wheelchair lane because there were a lot of steep ramps. We also need to add benches because there weren't many places to take breaks.

Our Trip to City Hall
I learned that city hall was made the way it is for certain reasons. We saw a lot of different statues that were dedicated to people and/or events. My favorite statue was the one that was made for the holocaust. We stopped and observed the Civil War Memorial. Another statue that we saw was the William Shakespeare memorial, it was directly across the street from the library. The colored soldiers memorial were looking up at lady Liberty as a symbol of hope. The dog Saddie came with us on the trip. Love Park is nationally and internationally known for skateboards. We also learned about how public places like Logan and East Squares were used as execution sites and public punishment venues. When we went to Logan Square we saw the Swan Fountain, there were three people in the middle of the fountain that represented the Schuylkill River, Wissahickon River, and the Delaware River. Overall the trip was interesting but the walk was too long.

After visitig the historical markers!
Universal Negro Improvement Association is a "social, friendly, humanitarian, charitable, educational, institutional, constructive and expansive society," (wikipedia)
On our way to the Church of the Advocate we used the landmarks to find our way there because we knew the neighborhood already. We looked it up on Google.com just in case we got lost.
